St Peter's Choir
On Sunday, June 8, 2014, St. Peter’s welcomes Layne Thompson-Payne as our Music Director.
Layne is a pianist and mezzo-soprano that also plays the Celtic harp, guitar and accordion and is studying the mandolin. She loves classical and traditional music as well as bluegrass and folk music. She gives private voice and piano lessons.
She has worked as a Director for The Music School of Delaware and The Newark Symphony Orchestra. Layne began playing the piano when she was 3 and performed her first recital at age 5. After attending an opera when she was 9, she decided to pursue a career in singing. She graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts. Layne continued to accompany, conduct and teach singing and music groups on a regular basis—too numerous to list here. Currently she accompanies the Lewes Men’s Chorus and coaches the “Harmonettes” who are a chapter of the Sweet Adeline’s International.
Layne is married to Brian Payne who is an international trampoline and tumbling coach. They live in Milford, Delaware with their dog, Seamus the Cairn terrier.
St. Peter’s Choir joyfully sing at the 10:00 service. The choir rehearses on Thursday nights and prior to the 10 AM service on Sunday mornings. This fun group is always seeking out new members. Any one who enjoys singing is welcome to join.
